A whole year in one valley, special offers in Witów

The special offers are the same rooms and the same breakfast in the price, arranged around particular dates. The difference is not in the standard but in what is happening outside the window at the time: in winter it is the Witów Ski slope and hot water after a day on skis; in spring the still-empty trails of the Chochołowska Valley; in summer the riverside garden and evenings by the fire; in autumn quiet and a wood-fired hot tub.

Nine periods cover the whole year: Christmas, New Year's Eve, the winter school break, spring, Easter, the May long weekend, Corpus Christi, summer and autumn. Each has its own description, because each works to a different logic: during the school break what counts is the distance to the lift; over the May weekend the weather can change plans by the hour; and in summer what matters most is whether there is somewhere to sit afterwards.

Christmas and New Year below the Tatras

At Christmas and New Year it is not an attraction that counts but the atmosphere and a place at the table. Kojsówka is small — twelve rooms, up to thirty-two guests — so over those days the whole house is often taken by one family or one group of friends. The dining room then becomes the shared space, and the garden and the hot tub work regardless of the weather.

New Year's Eve in Witów has one advantage over Zakopane: there is nowhere to drive to and no journey back at night. The Chochołowska Valley starts a few minutes away, and New Year's Day usually goes on a gentle walk in the mountains or at the Chochołowskie Thermal Baths.

The winter school break and skiing

Witów Ski is about a kilometre from the house, so the morning trip to the slope comes down to a few minutes. That is a rare combination below the Tatras: a lift next door and, at the same time, quiet and forest around rather than a main road. For families with children that distance matters as much as the standard of the room — the kit can stay at the house, and you can come back for lunch between runs.

After a day on skis the wood-fired hot tub is the most popular thing here, and right behind it the Chochołowskie Thermal Baths, a few minutes away by car.

Spring, the May weekend and Corpus Christi

From March to June, Podhale is at its best for anyone who cannot stand crowds. The trails are empty, the crocuses in the Chochołowska Valley usually bloom at the turn of March and April, and room rates are lower than in season. The May long weekend and Corpus Christi, in turn, give you three or four days — enough to fit in the mountains, the thermal baths and doing nothing at all.

Spring weather below the Tatras is changeable, so it is worth having a fallback. Kojsówka works well for that: when it rains there is the covered terrace, the dining room and a thermal pool a few minutes away.

Summer and autumn

July and August are the only time the riverside garden runs at full tilt: barbecue, fire, loungers, long evenings. The size of the grounds then has a practical value for families — children can run about and come back to the adults without leaving the property.

Autumn is the most underrated season around here. The trails empty out right after the first of September, colour holds in the valleys until mid-October, and the gap between cool air and hot water in the tub makes its greatest impression of the whole year.

Booking a seasonal stay

Christmas, New Year and school-break dates are booked earliest — usually several months ahead.
