Witów Ski: the slope you walk to after breakfast
A four-seater chair, a six-minute ride up and easy runs kept under snowmaking. For families with children Witów-Ski has one advantage over the big resorts: there is no journey to make.

In brief
- The Witów-Ski slopes is in Witów, in the Kościelisko district, about 14 km from Zakopane.
- The main lift is a four-seater Doppelmayr chairlift 1,000 m long, with a loading carpet and a capacity of 2,200 people an hour.
- The ride up takes 6 minutes over 150 m of height gain; a 120-metre button lift supplements it.
- There is about 1,120 m of easy piste, and the station bills itself as family-friendly.
- The runs have snowmaking, are groomed and floodlit, which makes evening skiing possible.
A winter morning in Zakopane usually goes like this: breakfast in a hurry, a drive in traffic, the hunt for a parking space, the queue at the ticket window. An hour and a half passes before anyone puts on skis. In Witów that problem simply does not arise.
The Witów-Ski slopes is right beside Kojsówka. You can eat breakfast unhurried, walk out and be on the slope while others are still driving into Zakopane.

Who the slope is for
Witów-Ski is a family station and does not pretend to be anything else. The runs are easy, and the four-seater chair with its loading carpet solves the biggest problem for parents teaching children to ski: getting onto the lift stops being the stressful moment of the day.
Advanced skiers looking for long, steep descents will find them at the bigger Podhale resorts. But for someone making their first turns, coming back after a break, or skiing with children, about a kilometre of easy, well-prepared piste is plenty for a few days' stay.
Evening skiing
The runs are floodlit and have a sound system, so the day does not end at sunset. For guests staying in Witów this is the most interesting option: after a whole day in the Chochołowska Valley or at the thermal baths you can still go out onto the slope in the evening, for an hour or two.
It is worth checking the evening hours and the current prices directly with the station, as they are adjusted during the season and depend on conditions.
How to check conditions before setting off
The station has a webcam, and it is the quickest way to judge what is happening on the slope: how many people, what the visibility is like, how the snow cover looks. It is worth using, especially during a thaw.
The runs have artificial snowmaking and are groomed, so the season is longer than at places relying on natural snow alone. Even so, conditions in early December and late March can be changeable, and the webcam plus a phone call to the station settles it in a minute.
Besides skiing
A winter day in Witów does not have to end on the slope. Cross-country routes run along the floor of the Chochołowska Valley, sleigh rides operate there, and the Chochołowskie Thermal Baths are a few minutes away by car — the most common plan for an afternoon after skiing.
The most popular pattern here goes like this: the slope until midday, lunch, the thermal baths or a nap, and in the evening the wood-fired hot tub in the garden. A soak in frost and snow is the thing guests talk about most afterwards.
Why a bed by the slope changes a winter holiday
- No morning journeys: the most valuable hour of the day is spent on the slope rather than in the car.
- The kit can stay here instead of travelling in the boot every day.
- Children do not have to last the whole day, because you can come back for lunch and go out again.
- A large free car park means no hunting for a space after coming back from the baths or from Zakopane.
- After a day in the cold, the hot tub is waiting (for a surcharge, 300 zł).
The winter school break is the hardest date to get here, as the rooms for three and four go first. Anyone planning January or February should book well ahead.
